NAIROBI, May 8 (Xinhua) -- World's marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge of Kenya on Wednesday vowed to lower the world mark in October.

The reigning Olympic champion broke the world record in September 2018 during the Berlin Marathon when he clocked 2:01.39, smashing the previous 2:02.57 held by countryman Dennis Kimetto by 1:16.

"After the London Marathon, I met a good partner whom I will work with to go the extra journey of making history in the world," Kipchoge told reporters in Nairobi upon arrival from London.

Two years ago at the Monza racetrack in Italy, Kipchoge ran 2:00.25, although it did not count as an official record as the race did not comply with all the rules of athletics governing body, the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).

"In 2017, I was like a boxer going into the ring and not knowing what to expect. Now I know," Kipchoge noted.
