DAR ES SALAAM, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- Hussein Ali Mwinyi, president of Tanzania's Zanzibar, on Tuesday reaffirmed his administration's commitment to achieving a debt-free future while accelerating large-scale development projects across the archipelago.

Speaking at the State House in Zanzibar following a media tour of ongoing infrastructure initiatives, Mwinyi said the government has established a dedicated account into which 15 million U.S. dollars are deposited monthly to service public debt, pledging to leave office with Zanzibar free of debt.

During his first term, Mwinyi said his government prioritized improvements in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and market access.

He noted that over 1,000 km of paved roads have been completed, far exceeding the 99-km target outlined in the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party's manifesto.

Enhanced tax collection has significantly boosted government revenues, enabling the construction of modern hospitals equipped with advanced medical facilities, he said, adding that patients now receive free treatment and meals.

Mwinyi also highlighted progress in sectors such as information and communication technology, the blue economy, and water supply.

New investments in fisheries and fish processing industries are expected to further stimulate economic growth and job creation, said Mwinyi.
